Things are never as good, or as bad, as you might think
As a former math and physics guy I tend to think of things in patterns and life is one entity that certainly has patterns. We all get caught up in our own world and hope that the external world will not mess with our setup.
Let’s get a little mathematical this morning; not too much, but a picture is worth a thousand words, or maybe even five hundred.
Here is what I would like life to look like:
In the graph above we have a nice rate of success increasing over time. Without numbers this might look like a linear relationship. Manageable, predictable, tolerable…
Here is what life is really like:
As you can plainly see, there is no linear relationship here and success comes and goes as time goes by. We may look at our success and wonder what we are doing right, or wrong, depending upon where we are on this graph.
I would encourage you to take a step back and consider that things are never as good, or never as bad as they seem. At the same time, be aware that where you are is not the direct result of today or yesterday. Some measures are leading measures and other are lagging. I could talk much more about this, but the key point is this; regardless of where you are on this graph and depending upon how you measure success, I would encourage you to always give thanks and always pray to ask for support or to give thanks.
Too often we review our success and boast about what We have done versus what He has done. This is a dangerous place to be. Good leaders know that they will always have high points and low points. They realize that neither is the sole result of their effort. When things are down, support those who are with you. When things are up, praise those who helped get you there.
I would encourage you to be thankful even if you are at the lowest point, the mid point or the apex of the curve. Every place on the curve provides a teachable moment and you need to experience the lowest-lows the appreciate the highest-highs. Trust me, I have had both, just this week.
Regardless of where you are today, stop, pray and give thanks.
Life is a blessing-go and share your blessing with someone you know or need to know.
